Bishop Mary Walton


Mary Ann Whitfield-Walton, wife, mother, and grandmother, is the Pastor of Holy Nation Tabernacle Sounds of Praise Pentecostal Fellowship Ministries in New Haven, CT.  She is a radical advocate for the cause of the Gospel and against the social injustice of mankind.  Mary is the youngest of 20 (11 living) children born to the late Joseph and Belinda Whitfield in Kingstree (Salters), South Carolina.


Dr. Walton served for five years as the 2nd Vice President of the Greater New Haven Clergy Association (the 1st female to hold this position); she is a member of the International Organization of Professional Women, named Who’s Who among Professional Women, served on the Board of Directors for the


Christian Community Commission for eight years, member of the Community Network of African American Telecommunications Professionals of SBC (now AT&T), a 1995 recipient of The Southern New England Telephone Company’s President Circle NOVA Award, and the recipient of the Christian Leadership and Human Services Award, 2000.


Mary worked at Southern New England Telephone Company in New Haven for 34 years, traveling extensively through out the US before taking an early retirement in November, 2000.  Some duties and accomplishments are as follows:


For 19 years she was advisor to the senior class and taught Social Psychology, Originality and Quality Education at the Christian Leadership Bible College (CLBC) in New Haven, CT.  Currently, she is Dean of Graduate Student and Professor of The Master’s and Doctorate of Theology Degree Program at CLBC.


Her education includes an ongoing degree in Early Childhood Development, a 2002 graduate of the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, GA; 1999 Doctorate of Divinity Degree from the International School of Theology, Worldwide at Carolina University in Lincoln, NC.  1986 graduate of the Christian Bible Institute (CBI) in New Haven, CT; 1989 Bachelor of Theology Degree from Christian Leadership Bible College, New Haven, CT; alumni (courses taken) of Boston University; Carnegie Mellow University, Maryland; Gateway Community College, New Haven.  She is skilled in Project Management and Motivational Public Speaking. She is also a 1971 graduate of the Barbizon School of Modeling.  


Baptized in the Holy Spirit in October, 1980; called into the Ministry of Preaching by God in May 1988, Mary was ordained Evangelist on November 26, 1989.  In August of 1995, she was ordained Pastor of Holy Nation Church, where she continues her work for the Lord and the Greater New Haven. Among the ministries within the church, she developed the Holy Nation Vacation Bible School that has been in existence for five years (actively participating with the youth as the Head Counselor).   Under her leadership, Holy Nation ran a Food Bank that supplied thousands of meals to those in need and a Family Day Care and Outreach Center where professional, loving care was given to children between the ages of 0-5 years.  She is a constant presence in the community, showing the people the love and compassion of God. 


Pastor Walton is Saved, Sanctified, and Filled with God’s Holy Spirit.  She walks in the beauty of Esther, the resourcefulness of Ruth, faith of Abraham, stamina of Isaiah; the boldness of John the Baptist; the Spirit of Jesus; with a Davidic Praise.
