Bishop David L. Baxter, Jr. is the son of David and Bonnie Baxter of Summerville, SC.  He graduated from Summerville High School and attended Claflin College.

Bishop Baxter was saved at an early age and recognized that God had His hands upon him.  He attended Shiloh FBH Church under the leadership of Elder Patrick Frazier, Sr., and it was at Shiloh FBH Church he grew and sought the Lord.  Dedicated to the call of service, he attended Sunday School, sang on the choir, ushered, and was a member of the YPI and other auxiliaries in the church.  At the age of 16, Bishop Baxter was called into the ministry.

Following the lead of God, Bishop Baxter then joined Emanuel Baptist Church, where Pastor Robert A. Vandross was pastor.  Here he continued his growth in ministry.  In revival after revival, he preached under the anointing and unction of the Holy Ghost.

Once his season at Emanuel Baptist Church ended, God moved him to Greater New Bethel Sounds of Praise under the dynamic and charismatic leadership of Apostle Allen H. Simmons.  At Greater New Bethel, Bishop Baxter’s ministerial duties expanded.  He served as an associate minister, Bible Study instructor, while continuing to minister in revivals.

On April 30, 2003 he was appointed Pastor of Deliverance Cathedral Sounds of Praise in Columbia, SC, where he served for seven years preaching and teaching deliverance and restoration. During this time, God directed then Pastor Baxter to birth another ministry, The Cathedral of Hope Sounds of Praise in Reevesville, SC.  January 1, 2006, began the first of many anointed services, where he preached, taught and brought hope to those he reached.

On October 23, 2010, Bishop Baxter was appointed the Senior Pastor of Greater True Light Ministries in Myrtle Beach, SC.  He is also the State Bishop (South Carolina/Southeast) of the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Sounds of Praise Pentecostal Fellowship Ministries, Inc.

On October 26, 2013, then Presiding Elder David Baxter was appointed Bishop-Designate by Apostle Allen H. Simmons. He would go on to be consecrated to the Bishopric on May 16, 2015 by Apostle Simmons during the Seventh Triennial of the Sounds of Praise Pentecostal Fellowship Ministries, Inc.

Bishop Baxter is married to First Lady Kenyetta McMillian Baxter, who serves faithfully with him in ministry.  To their union, God blessed them with three beautiful children: Shekinah, and twins, Kyle and Kyah.

Bishop Baxter is a man after God’s own heart.  He lives what he preaches and is a man of honor and integrity.  He serves the Body of Christ with his trust and faith in God, his teaching, his preaching, his compassion, his humility and most of all, his love of and for God’s people.  He is truly “A Man of God“.
